Light Zone included four distinct activities. The project started with Live Workout session with a personal trainer who connected with young people and motivated them to keep active during isolation. This followed a Trivia Night with entertainment and quiz hosted by Innerscope London an organisation dedicated to helping students stay resilient.

Dinner Party was facilitated by a professional London Chef who connected with children and their families in their homes via zoom to guide cooking a step-by-step recipe with a restaurant quality. Children and young people shopped for the ingredients with a £15 Sainsbury’s Vouchers. Feedback from families was exciting because the recipe made at the dinner party has now become part of their home menu.

LightZone finished off with a painting Sessions delivered face to face with social distancing by an artist with over 30 years of experience. At the end of the painting session each young person received a professional art studio kit for them to practice at home.

These activities provided young people the opportunity to build relationships in and across communities in Derby to help address the problems of loneliness among young people particularly those of BAME communities. The network supported young people to build new social connections and families were enabled to feel less lonely and isolated.
